{"id":545,"date":"2016-09-04T13:35:42","date_gmt":"2016-09-04T12:35:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/nonewwars.co.uk\/blog\/?p=545"},"modified":"2016-09-04T13:35:42","modified_gmt":"2016-09-04T12:35:42","slug":"less-conventional-postgraduate-peace-degrees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nonewwars.co.uk\/blog\/2016\/09\/less-conventional-postgraduate-peace-degrees\/","title":{"rendered":"Less conventional postgraduate peace degrees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In a discussion about transferability of degree modules, it got me thinking about the history of universities and how 900 years ago one could switch between Bologna, Paris and Oxford universities willy-nilly because they offered the same curriculum.\u00a0 Now it is really hard to get one university to give credits fro study in another even in the same country.\u00a0 Division and protectionism, even in education.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, international peace degrees.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.upeace.org\/\">University for Peace<\/a> or UPEACE is (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_for_Peace\">according to Wikipedia<\/a>) &#8220;<em>an intergovernmental organization with university status established in 1980 and based Costa Rica<\/em>&#8220;.\u00a0 I have looked at it before and eliminated it primarily on not having <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elearning.upeace.org\/tuition.cfm\">$US15,000<\/a> and partly because of lack of recognition for the qualification.\u00a0 I also wasn&#8217;t too impressed with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elearning.upeace.org\/pdf\/Academic_Calendar_for_2016-2017.pdf\">the course content<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/unu.edu\/\">United Nations University<\/a> or UNI is (<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_Nations_University\">according to Wikipedia<\/a>) &#8220;<em>the academic and research arm of the United Nations, established in 1973.\u00a0 Based in Tokyo, Japan, has since 2010 been authorized to grant degrees.
